Betsy Speaks Her Mind

Following Every Finger

i remember one day you
said you’d leave for a while
i thought some people
should never smile
i thought what a spot
you put her in
but the realness
of each answer
was put in question
by each grin
and it was a goodbye
off a television
you talked full
and fast
with no seams of
indecision
full
and fast
your defense against
her grief
if your mind was
on a mission
it was a mission
of relief
and oh you’re out
following
every
finger
oh to still a doubt
but still it linger
you just have to be
an animal
to hear her
overtones
through the letters
and through the phones
you been on that trail like a cause of birth
not to have what
you track down
but to find out
what it’s worth

and oh even
big girls cry
you kept everything so clean
all that soap hurts her eyes
you kept everything so clean
it might have
slipped your mind
the knot was small but
the knot was tight
and oh you’re out
following
every finger
oh to still a doubt
but still it linger
you just have to be
an animal
to feel her
overtones
through the letters
and through the phones
you been on that trail
like a cause of birth
not to have
what you track down
but to find out what it’s worth

and it’s so tough keeping
every time fair
just to love once without
having to care
just to love once without
cracking the spell
of relaxing into
a pleasure
that you know so well
and oh you’re out
following
every
finger
oh to still a doubt
but still it linger
you just have to be an animal
to hear her overtones
through the letters
and through the phones
you been on that trail
oh you been on that trail
you been on that trail
since you were born
not to have what
you track down
but to find out
how it’s worn
landing only
when your wings hurt
you’re out following every finger

Why I never get anything done…

Here’s how my life goes.
Due to some recent developments, I’ve been reading everything I can find about psychometry.
I found a Stephen King book called “The Dead Zone” and read it (probably reread it; not sure). Spent some time wondering why it wasn’t “The Awake Zone.”
Then found out there was a TV series w/ same name and somewhat based on King’s book. Watched the whole series on Netflix. Decided the actor who played character Greg Stillson (basically the devil) looked and moved and acted like real-life John Edwards (except Stillson didn’t do the little lizard-tongue lick Edwards did).
Spent time wondering if Ms. Hunter saved us from the devil :-)
This type of thing is why I never get anything done…
